Painting & Drawings

Hi, my name is Julia.

I am a visual artist living in coastal New England, inspired by both urbanism and the natural world.

Here I am showing work that delights me.

An impressionistic painting of utility poles with power lines against a blue sky, with a building on the right side and dark structures in the foreground.
Oil painting of a street scene with trees, utility poles, and power lines under an overcast sky.

Biography

I grew up in a village that celebrates close observation. With a preoccupation for close-looking and an enthusiasm for thinking with my hands, encouraged by both family and teachers, I never stopped drawing after childhood. Important mentors beyond my own self-directed study have included: Sandy Nickerson, Michael Oatman, Karin Stack, Joe Smith, Catherine Kehoe, Jason Polins, and Don Thompson.

I have only shown my work twice, once sharing some landscapes at an art fair in my home town of Woods Hole, MA, and once displaying a series of portraits at Cambridge Community Television in Cambridge, MA.
